Run your existing product photos through this before you touch anything else on the listing. Most sellers find several fixable problems in under ten minutes, and none of them require a new camera.
| # | Check | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Clean background | No clutter, no distracting patterns competing with the product for attention. |
| 2 | Proper lighting | One clear light direction, no harsh shadows or blown-out highlights. |
| 3 | Product fills the frame | Not swimming in empty space, not cropped so tight it loses context. |
| 4 | Minimum three angles | Front, side, and a detail or top-down view, not just one hero shot. |
| 5 | Lifestyle or in-use shot | At least one image showing the product in a real-world context, not floating on white. |
| 6 | Close-up detail shot | Texture, material, or construction detail a buyer would check in person. |
| 7 | High resolution | No pixelation or blur when the buyer zooms in, which they will. |
| 8 | True-to-life color | What arrives matches what was shown; color-accuracy complaints kill reviews. |
| 9 | Platform-correct aspect ratio | Cropped for how the platform actually displays it, not just how it looks at full size. |
| 10 | Hero image stops the scroll | The first image in the set has to win the thumbnail competition on its own. |
Scoring: most sellers find 4–6 fixable problems on their first pass. If you're missing more than half of these, fix the photo set before you spend anything on promotion. Traffic to weak images is traffic you're paying to lose.
A buyer decides whether to keep reading in the time it takes to glance at the thumbnail. Copy, pricing, and trust signals only get a chance to work if the image earns the click first. That's why this audit exists as a standalone step, before the full listing audit, not folded into it.
